Urban Planner + Architect

Luis Monterrubio is an architect and urban planner currently with the Chicago Department of Planning and Development focusing on land use, economic development and zoning policies as key elements that shape the fabric and livability of cities.  Since 2014, he also collaborates annually with Archeworks a Chicago design-based lab through a summer-applied research development program with national and international universities.

He has focused his attention for the last 16 years on community development and neighborhood planning and more recently to industrial land use policy, transit oriented development and commercial corridors revitalization.  He believes in the interdisciplinary participation of professionals as the way to resolve most of urban centers dilemmas.

Luis holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the Universidad Autonómoma Metropolitana in Mexico City and a Master’s in Urban Planning and Policy from the University of Illinois at Chicago.  Lastly, his passion for the environment and sustainability motivated him also to become a LEED Accredited Professional.
