My name is Jose Yanez-Vargas. I’m from Mexico. I work at the University of Illinois at Chicago Office of Sustainability where I am the Energy and GHG Inventory Intern.
What sustainability, energy, and community issues are important to you?
Effective use of ventilation system as well as building automation and energy optimization is the topic I am more interested in learning. Saving energy and reciding emitions due to how buildings work is a huge area of opportunity for green alternatives to fight climate change.
What exciting projects/research are you working on now?
I am currently doing research about the optimization of HVAC systems at the University of Illinois at Chicago’s College of Engineering.
What are your plans for the next five years?
I want to learn and gain experience in the Energy Engineering field that will let me become a consultant.
What made you want to apply to SISE?
My role at the University of Illinois at Chicago’s Office of Sustainability. We are always looking for ways to expand our knowledge and network with peers in the area of study.
What are you most looking forward to doing in Chicago?
Do you like Cats? If not, are you willing to learn to like cats?
I do not mind cats but I am 100% a dog person.
