My name is Lawrence Amadi. I am from Nigeria. I go to Illinois Institute of Technology where I am a Ph.D. Computer Science candidate.
What sustainability, energy, and community issues are important to you?
Building and maintaining diverse and reliable energy sources to power a modern-day society is one of the major problems that developing countries struggle with. It is very important to me to help solve this issue.
What exciting projects/research are you working on now?
Aside from my current research project which hovers around using machine learning models to do threat detection, I work on a number of personal side projects. One of which is exploring a new tool for taking length and distance measurements which is more befitting of our digital age.
What are your plans for the next five years?
Completing my Ph.D. program is a priority for the next 3 to 4 years. After that, I intend to build on my industry experience for a few years before starting something of my own.
What made you want to apply to SISE?
The first step to solving sustainability-related problems is to understand the energy and sustainability spectrum and that is what SISE is about. I hope to learn and meet like-minded professionals through SISE.
What are you most looking forward to doing in Chicago?
I live in Chicago so I guess I get a pass on this prompt.
Do you like Cats? If not, are you willing to learn to like cats?
Honestly, I am a dog person. Cats creep me a bit, but maybe that is because I have never really spent time around cats.
