My name is Martina Leveni. I'm from Italy. I am a visiting research scholar at the University of South Florida and a PhD candidate in Industrial Engineering at the University of Rome Niccolò Cusano.
What sustainability, energy, and community issues are important to you?
I really care about the future of the environment and society, and I am interested in renewable energies. There are a lot of challenges that should be met in order to move the world to a cleaner, more sustainable future and I am eager to give my contribution. I would like to find solutions that can help people increasing the quality of their life and protecting the environment. The low grade heat sources (such as waste heat, geothermal, etc…) are widespread worldwide and they can be a good source of energy if correctly exploited.
What exciting projects/research are you working on now?
My research focuses on combined power and cooling production from low temperature heat sources. I am working on new cycles configurations in order to improve the efficiencies. It is absolutely interesting to find new solutions for a better and environmentally sustainable use of the resources available.
What are your plans for the next five years?
This year, after finishing my PhD program, I would like to continue to work on inspiring and innovative topics regarding energy and sustainability, in a multi-cultural and international environment that stimulate my curiosity. I think what is most important is to continue to work with passion and dedication for a job that I love whether it is in research or in the industry.
What made you want to apply to SISE?
I would like to share my ideas and discuss about sustainability and energy with people from all over the world. I really care about learning the point of view of USA and other countries. Moreover, this program would give me the opportunity to grow as a scientist and as a manager. I love to cooperate with people and to work in teams, and I always learn something new from everyone that I meet. I am looking forward to see our knowledge and skills applied in real community life.
What are you most looking forward to doing in Chicago?
I am looking forward to explore the city and to see the amazing Lake Michigan. I really like walking around the city and learning about a community that is really different from the ones in my country. I also enjoy visiting museums and tasting local food.
Do you like Cats? If not, are you willing to learn to like cats?
Cats are cute and funny, but I am also very allergic so I have never had one as pet.
