Rachel Starr

My name is Rachel Starr. I am from Oklahoma. I go to the Illinois Institute of Technology where I am a B.Arch. Architecture candidate.

What sustainability, energy, and community issues are important to you?

Educating communities about the importance of supporting sustainable energy sources and lifestyles is one of the most important things to me. You can often find me explaining recycling and zero waste concepts anyone who will listen!

What exciting projects/research are you working on now?

Currently I am the president of an organization working to get our university divested from fossil fuels, and am coordinating two organizations to help fix up our on-campus community farm.

What are your plans for the next five years?

To graduate, and become accredited through the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program, as well as become a licensed architect. I hope to stay in Chicago and learn from the incredible architecture community here.

What made you want to apply to SISE?

I want to be surrounded by like-minded people and get more experience working with sustainable projects!

What are you most looking forward to doing in Chicago?

Showing people around! I love this city and think other people should, too.

Do you like Cats? If not, are you willing to learn to like cats?

I love cats... but I am allergic!
