My name's Victor Dario Rodriguez. I'm from Argentina. I go to school at the University of South Florida where I am a Masters in Global Sustainability candidate.
What got you interested in sustainability?
Due to my work, I am on the road quite much and I never could understand those tank trucks transporting gasoline around everywhere my work takes me when I see so much natural, renewable energy around us and natural resources been wasted. This get me thinking for years now, there must be sustainable paths where renewable energies can replace fossil fuels in a economic and advantageous way. Therefore, as soon as I got the time and money, I came to USA to study global sustainability issues.
What sustainability, energy, and mobility issues are important to you?
I have an interest in Concentrated Solar Power (CSP), specially in the storage segment of this technology, where I think there are ways to make it portable, smaller scale and widely used. I am also studying, trying to learn and see how biomass, specially forest biomass and sawmills by-products, can be use to produce biofuels to be consumed in the Forest Industries of South America. This last one can be as sustainable it can get since to do it will mean a significant improvement in the economic, social and environment aspects of those affected regions. Imagine transporting wood logs or sawn timber in trucks run by biofuels produced from forest leftovers and sawdust.
What exciting projects/research are you working on now?
We are trying to develop a solar collector with storage with a friend and working partner.
What are your plans for the next five years?
No real plans for next five years (just full of ideas). Actually, I only have the plan to do only things I really like, finalize my Master Degree, keep learning and make sure my family also live in best possible way Our Family adventure in USA.
What made you want to apply to SISE?
This year topic (The Future of Transportation Systems) and the prospect of high level speakers, demanding work and challenging topics.
What are you most looking forward to doing in the city?
